Not like that, dogs. Get your minds right.

As some of y’all may know, I’m new to UYD. I’ve been listening to back episodes and laughing my boobs off for weeks now, but I think I’ve hit a stumbling block around episode 80. All Jonathan’s talk about Wal-Mart and the “working class” people was too ugh for me to slog through so I never finished listening.

Most of you guys here are pretty hardcore fan-wise, but I’m curious to know if there have ever been any episodes or parts of episodes that you couldn’t listen to or found yourself cringing through for whatever reason.

Reply to this and help me not feel so sensitive. Or reply and tell me that I should suck it up. Whatever; it’s your call.

Episode 89 was tough for me. Huge argument in that one. I sometimes have trouble finding Peeds funny too.
I think it’s healthy to not be down with everything they say. It would be weird if you agreed with every point they make or if you found every joke funny.
But in general, suck it up. Wanky.

I have a couple friends that found 89 hard to listen to as well. I agree with the not being healthy to be down with everything. It gets annoying to me a bit that Jah and Seth pretty much agree on everything.

i don’t agree with them on everything, but i don’t see why it’s “wrong”

also, i thought ep 89 was interesting. it was kind of cool to see that they can sometimes disagree and are cool with letting everyone hear them open up about a lot of stuff.

I didn’t have a problem with 89 I liked that it showed they are each able to have separate thoughts and be passionate about what they believe.

89 was one of my favorites. Passion is healthy, and when people get fired up about something like that it allows you to see a little bit more of them than what they project when they’re at their best. It’s candid and revealing.

Think it was Episode 79 ... Not really cringe worthy commentary, but the I couldn’t listen to the crunching of the Doritos Collisions “taste test” ... Jah couldn’t stop and I believe, at one point, got up to wash his hands.  I soldiered through it, but was in full pani for the duration of the munch fest.

Not trying to be a contrarian here (just repping those on the other side of the fence), but I really liked 79 and remember thinking (and enjoying) that Seth in particular had a hilarious “eating things” voice. Apparently you and I can never be friends. You’d probably hate my eating things voice.

One of the things I love about the show is that neither Seth nor Jonathan attempt to be other than what they are.  In Jonathan’s case, he had (and still has, by his own very recent admission) a very privileged life.  So when he talks about working-class, he’s just coming at us with his personal perspective.  I think, though, that it’s also very clear that he’s awesome.

My advice would honestly be to call him and talk to him about it.  I’ve found through doing that that a lot of what he says on the show is just a snap-shot of what’s on his mind at that moment, and not necessarily representative of an overall world-view (I had issue with comments he made about 311, and he was totally awesome about it and we just chatted amicably about music for about 20 minutes).

These are two of the most honest and open-hearted guys around.  I say gut it out and keep giving them a chance.

I don’t agree that horse/weed/mind eye is entertaining.

I can’t believe Jesus has come out and is doing meth.

I think the epp when they argue is awesome, especially when i found out there was a gas leak and they were both out of their minds lol. I just re-listened to episode one to hear seth talking shit about new york city and i laughed my ass off because he is so fucking awesome and so is jah, i think you just have to listen with an open mind and an open heart and if you dont like the content then laugh it off. o yeah and the only parts i have a hard time with is when they talk about people throwing babies in the garbage and shit( just because i have two small children)but thats life and they deal with issues so whatevs.

Jah seems to hate those stories as well. Like how they never want to do a who’s momming harder with children that die.

I can’t believe Jesus has come out and is doing meth.

I’m a little over the horse/weed/minds eye but still enjoy listening to it for a few minutes within the context of a show.

I found the argument episode too close to home with a close friend from the past. That guy would go off to extremes and bounce around the way Jah did about Dogs and adopting kids, and Rainforest Tree Frogs with epilepsy or whatever.

But that is what makes Jah kind of funny in his Trustafarian Electric Didgeridoo playing way.

Sometimes Seth gets a little Woody Allen on meth, which I really enjoy, but it drives any Women I know right out of the room.

Do these guys actually have children? Do they have jobs?

Also, I think I’m the only one that doesn’t like their logo. I know, heresy, right? But it looks like one guy mentally projecting his hair into another guy’s face. Which is hard to swallow and brings back bad memories.

Awful memories of friends trying to kill you with their hair?
horse/weed/minds eye feels like 15 minutes and slows down the show by a shitload. I can’t imagine either of them enjoying doing it.

I was in Jah’s corner in that fight. It doesn’t matter if you shat it out yourself the most important part of having a kid is raising it. You don’t give worlds best dad mugs to dudes boning down with no protection.

Would be awesome if one day jah and seth opened up a bit and told us how they feel about their lives. How seth feels about being too old to become a popular actor. How Jah feels about the tiny chance he has of making enough money from jogger to live.

I can’t believe Jesus has come out and is doing meth.

Dude, they circled it back around for 188, and it was so fucking fresh. Audience participation up in this motherfucker.

I feel like this is actually a good part of what makes it appealing to some of us. A good many of us don’t get to dude around very often. I’m a straight lady, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s fun to occasionally objectify women (you know, as long as it’s not actually representative of your perspective). I understand that this makes me a bad feminist, despite what I like to consider as a fairly healthy worldview. I’ve come to accept it. Now kindly show me your tits, or I walk.

Woody Allen on meth would just mean super neurotic?
Broing out is definately a huge part of the appeal of uyd for me. It just feels like some straight dudes chilling out showing each other how to have fun the right way.

Oh, I’m not NOT gonna keep on keepin on with listening to old shows, but something about episode 80 just got to me.

I don’t begrudge Jonathan his privilege or life experiences because, duh, how could I, but I get uncomfortable when people use those experiences to make crazy sweeping statements about certain groups of people. And yeah, I know that crazy sweeping statements are basically UYD’s bread and butter, but like I said maybe I just get sensitive, especially when it comes to race and class and whatever because I’m in the minority in both of those categories.

Regardless, they really do seem like genuinely good peoples, and I’ll be sticking around.

More Pixar, less bukkake.

I agree. I think that’s why I liked 89 so much. You got a little more of an idea of their outlooks on life and their true feelings on pretty big subjects for people their/our age.

Also, it basically made me want to let Seth knock me up because he sounds like he’d be the dopest dad ever.

More Pixar, less bukkake.
