Wow your response is seriously depressing.  It is sad that you are so beaten down, and people refer to women as bitches so often, that you just give up and take it and don’t even hear it anymore.

Don’t condescend. I’m nobody’s poor little thing. It’s really depressing that I’d prefer to hear people using new and interesting terms when old ones have become trite and antiquated? Maybe the reason that it hits you so much harder than the rest of us is that making assumptions and behaving as though you’re more enlightened places you much closer to the original meaning of the term in question.

This path isn’t pretty and it’s only going to get less so, so I’m retreating now. This isn’t really the place for this. Rest assured that my lack of further responses doesn’t mean I agree with you. Incidentally, though, your assertion that my opinion could only be formed by my general submission as a weak woman and not by my actual cultivated feelings on the matter is a considerably more detrimental view to take towards women as a whole than anything else that has been previously discussed here.

I wonder if anybody from the peed community is going to pop up and ask that term to be retired, too.

.. no matter how carefully I chose my words in my original post, most some people are still acting like I am this enraged feminazi getting crazy angry over one joke and that hates the show.  Please reread my first post.  I never said anything about being angry or offended or thinking they are bad dudes.

No i read every fucking thing you wrote. I understand the jokes aren’t the offensive part but the off-handed casual use of a derogatory phrase so much that it becomes the norm and a replacement for another, less offensive word. No?

Get over it. FUCK. Seriously, how could you get offended when YOU KNOW that there is NOTHING intended behind the use of that? Wouldn’t it be worse if they used some other word but you knew that J and S were actually fucking pricks? Shouldn’t you understand that since they are actually very respectful and enlightened about women that their casual usage of a word they choose over any other means fuckall?

Intention trumps everything in this case. The reason the word bitch is offensive is because people use it to demean and belittle women. The intention behind calling a shitty woman a bitch is to hurt her. J and S have NO INTENTION of hurting women by using that word and YOU KNOW THIS. That is my fucking issue with you. You know very well they mean no harm by it and insist on -bitching- complaining about it.

You want them to be more sensitive to your plight as a catcalled woman? Too bad, their insensitivity about EVERYTHING ELSE is why you like listening to them so don’t pick and choose what is ok and what is not.

Hi Horserape, I hope this discussion isn’t making you too mad because I actually agree with some of what you said about intention being the most important, etc.

I do disagree with you about words not being hurtful and not having meaning.  Maybe you would be very comfortable if we could roll things back a couple generations to the days of Mad Men and you could drop the N bomb whenever you wanted along with all other slurs against races religion and sexual preference.  I guess it is easy for you to say words are not a big deal if you aren’t directed at you.

I am not the only person that doesn’t like to be referred to in demeaning ways.  A LOT of people don’t and maybe you should try to have a little more empathy.  It’s a shame, they may be alienating other female listeners who don’t get to hear their good intentions because they are put off by it.
