The Rum Diary - Hunter S. Thompson

That one was good, but I recommend the Great Shark Hunt. Also his last book, which you could also call his memoirs, A Kingdom of Fear, was OK. He rambles on little too much about Grenada.

Great Shark Hunt is BOMB. Also, probably one of the greatest shitter books (books to read whilst on the shitter) is the Proud Highway by HST. It’s a collection of all the crazy letters he wrote to enemies, corporations, friends, relatives, acquaintances, etc.

Yo Dog. You Dead Dog.

I think Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail ‘72 is another HST standout - you read it now and realize that not a goddamned thing has changed in politics since Nixon and his cock-sucking Southern Strategy.

However, I tried to read HST’s Hell’s Angels book and I couldn’t ever finish [I don’t even remember why.]

Hell’s Angels is a staple. It’s a pretty pimp what he did… and then he takes a beating in the end. That book was really his first success.

Vonnegut!!!! Player Piano is where it’s at, but you’ve mentioned equally great classics. I picked up Jailbird the other day and am going to start it this weekend.

Naked Lunch was awesome, but don’t EVER try to watch the movie (especially if you’ve seen Robocop. You won’t be able to get the image out of your head)

Philip K. Dick - A Scanner Darkly. Book: Dope. Movie: Dope.

I have already ordered Player Piano and it actually should have arrived a week ago.
I guess I may check out A Scanner Darkly next then, once I have read all the books in my “queue”.
Also, I will probably watch the Naked Lunch movie anyway.

Just finished Mother Night and am about halfway through Player Piano right now.
Vonnegut is wicked funny. Why have I not read these books until now???

Just read “The Road”,by Cormack McCarthy, and found it to be one of the most beautifully written book I’ve read in a long time. It’s almost oppressively bleak throughout, and yet I couldn’t put it down.Haven’t seen the movie yet,and don’t know if I want to.

UYD- Brought to you by math.

did you feel like the boy was a bunch of different ages throughout the book? One scene he seems 6 and the next he’s 15.
I really enjoyed the book too and all the movie reviews say that it will make you depressed as shit which sounds like they followed the book pretty closely.

I can’t believe Jesus has come out and is doing meth.

I just finished Civilwarland in Bad Decline by George Saunders. It is horrifyingly sad and funny. Short stories. I recommend it.

Right now I’m in the middle of The Dome by Stephen King, pretty good if you like his stuff… never read his work until last year when i started the Dark Tower Series which i would recommend if you have some major time to kill.

I’d also highly recommend Chuck Palahniuk, Craig Clevenger, Bret Easton Ellis and Douglas Coupland; all of which are great authors.  Amy Hempel is pretty decent too…
