Waddup my fellow American Americans and global monsterwebnetizens. Does anyone out there like to get their swim on? I’ve been literally dipping in like a mofo lately. I’m curious about workouts and gear and tips and such. Here’s my gear below.

SwimP3 Player

Finis Snorkel

Garmin Swim Watch

I like to swim, but I don’t do it in any sort of a serious way.

Man, I’d love to have that SwiMP3 player, though.  That looks seriously sweet!  Do you like it?

Those three things I couldn’t live without. The mp3 player is so dope. It’s best for music. The sound travels to the eardrum via bone conduction. The snorkel cuts my exercise time in half and lets you focus on form and I recommend it. The watch is maybe a bit frivolous, but it tracks your distances and has a weekly total that I use for motivation.

I mainly row, either scull or erg. Used to run a lot until a repetitive foot injury crossed that from the list.  This year I’ve started using a DVD called Yoga for Surfers II which I really like.  Solid workout in 1/2 hr, even though it’s yoga.  The other day a personal trainer set up shop in an organic food shop I occasionally go to. He offered a fat and muscle analysis via a souped up electric scale.  I’d used the caliper method when I was a wrestler and thought wtf, might as well.  The store was super quiet so after I committed, I realized that the dozen or so people would all soon know how out of shape I was.  Happy ending is that the trainer was astounded how balanced and right on my entire rig was/is.  A couple too many beers and bread but otherwise solid.  He asked a lot of questions about my workout which was satisfying.  If you were to look at me, you’d think, nothing special, kinda chunky but underneath that blubber layer, look out.  I always breaststroke due to the breathing.  I think il buy one of those snorkels.  It would really open the pool to me too.

I hear you on the rowing. I loved that machine, but in Korea, the gyms don’t have them for some reason. I thought about buying myself one, but the paper involved isn’t insignificant $$$. I need to learn practice other strokes in the pool, but right now I only freestyle. I’ll check into the yoga, but I’ll be careful after hearing Jonathan’s experience =)I’ve torn my rotator cuff twice and also have this from wrestling, so I try to take it easy in the gym now that I’m on my way to becoming an old.

Thanks for the ideas~

Same here on the shoulder.  I had my right shoulder re-attached, so to speak, some time back.

I cannot and will not vouch for any yoga other that Yoga for Surfers II with Peggy Hall. In fact, i dont think i like the practice otherwise. I only wish that the soundtrack separated out their music so I could play my own.  Otherwise, totally content with it and it provides an OK workout suited for whenever.

I started swimming after I broke my femur in a motorcycle crash. I used to have a Speedo branded mp3 player and then I bought a cheap one that pooped out on me. How long have you used your MP3? If it lasts longer than a year, I might have to buy one. That last rant Jonathan did about septic public pools made me sick. I had to do a sort of Clockwork Orange reprogramming of my brain.

Almost two years, but I’m sending it back and upgrading to the newest model due to some corrosion in the USB stick from the chlorine. I guess it was eating the metal. The newest model isn’t cheap, but They’ve supposedly worked out previous issues, so we’ll see. It’s Korean Thanksgiving time so the pool’s closed and I’m realizing how much I miss it.

Shit’s about to get real. I finally got my replacement upgrade. I’ll let you know how it goes although I don’t think I’ll have any problems with it.

Nice. I might buy the waterproof ipod shuffle. Lifeguard at the pool heard the Finis is great, but I am curious to know if I will be able to hear tunes when my head is not submerged? Need a report on that…A.S.A.P. Will bone conduction occur above the waterline? And will I get a full spectrum of sound or are certain tones accentuated and other tones drop?

Low end seems to suffer and when out of water the sound drops a lot, but I’m fine with it because I use the snorkel and am submerged most of the time. I rocked some Tiesto during my swim today and it sounded fine though.

The reviews I’ve read for other underwater mP3’s seemed kinda sketchy. I’ll look up the waterproof ipod. I like that the FINIS unit is all contained in the head attachment and there’s no need for a cable from the unit up to the head.
