“Japanese Refreshing Flavor”
So…fish, then?
Shiso is a Japanese herb. There are two varieties, red and green.
It has a vaguely basil-like/mint-like flavour…
AKA - perilla pr “beef steak tongue” in English
Oh damn I’m so on top of this.
Where are you at by the way? I’m in the Yokohama/Fujisawa area. Any other fans in Japan?

Hey, I’m a million miles away in Aichi-ken up on the border with Gifu. I too wondered how many other listeners there are in Japan.
Speaking of brews, you tried this one?

You don’t play doom (as in metal and not the video game) do you? I’m in need of a guitarist. And a band. And a life.
Reckon we can get a bottle of Shiso Pepsi out to the boys? (Gross as it is - really is what it claims to be -sweet carbonated shiso water - blecch!)
My friend from the US is coming next week so I stocked up on the new Pepsi, but still haven’t tried it yet. I’ll probably get some more today. But I have to say, that yogurt stuff was amazing.
I’ll drink some Yebisu on occasion, but my go to beer is the Asahi Super Dry. That shit is great. I tried to splurge and bought a bunch of Yebisu one time (it was quite expensive) and it was the worst. It may have been skunk beer, I find that sometimes. But, in bars it seems to be ok. Sapporo is my second choice.
I actually do play guitar, but metal isn’t quite my thing to play, although I’ll listen to it on occasion. You can hear the music I’ve made here: http://www.myspace.com/thenationalpool

I’ve been seeing this stuff around, too. They’re not bold enough to put it in vending machines, but certain convenience stores will rent them out an entire freezer-front for the first weekend. Two weeks later they’re gone forever. Shiso leaves taste like soap, but this could very easily mix well with vodka. Not as well as this ish, tho:

Masks are awesome for handlessly catching coughs, snots and sneezes. People may think they’re keeping out germs, but the message is really to other people: I don’t want your cold, asshole. Also lots of people talk to themselves, so it helps there, too.

How about this then… third beer… diet beer flavoured calory free alcoholic pop!

It supports my active life by its values, dog.

i’m in south japan in kagoshima. so fucking hot. in march i went to l.a. and went to the studio to meet seth. it was absolutely amazing. so nice and basically the same in person as on the show. there are pictures on the main uyd facebook page of seth and i. uyd for life
more of us here than I thought! Cool tat.
I tried sending Cucumber Pepsi overseas—the post offices are not down with carbonated drinks in the mail. The concern is it’ll break open and supersoak all the mail. So if you try this, you’d better put it in an air-tight waterproof container and somehow keep the postal service from knowing what it is. That may be lying, and it may be fraud, I don’t know. Best bet would be to deliver it in person.
Any physicists / Cola U. grads know the actual likelihood of a 500 ml PET bottle busting open in flight? They seem well designed these days.

Yeah, thing is, anything air/vacuum sealed doesn’t like travelling in non-/incorrectly pressurised situations. I used to get friends to bring/send jars of olives from outside Japan and they always inevitably ended up “open” with the seal popped. I imagine the same might hold ofr carbonated drinks… or not…
Update: So my friend came to Japan and we tried this stuff and I thought it was pure swill. It leaves a very long, minty, and overall bad aftertaste. However, my friend seemed to like it ok.
I still say, that old Pepsi White stuff was amazing.
Ah, 6810, I just read the post about the Zero stuff. I’ll drink it in a pinch, but after I found out it’s not real beer I don’t touch it, both for the taste and the hangover.
A new rule of thumb for me: If it’s not almost 300 yen at the conbini, don’t drink it.

Sounds like a rule I can live with. I think 70%+ malt content qualifiesfor the highest tax bracket and thus the 300yen price.
In these tough economic times, I’ve had to break that rule again and again. Luckily there’s some middle ground between the ¥300 and the bottom-of-the-barrel Zeroes, Diet Beers, and zasshu. Kirin’s Tanrei is pretty much indistinguishable if it’s ice cold. Anything less than that though, and I might as well just get the big jug-o-shochuu and make shiso Pepsi Chu-Hi.
Damn that’s probably too many Japanese booze words for one post

Wow, I’m a twin now. Err, a bit too much ebisu tonight with some Aoi Oni to top things off… holy hop-orific Batman!
