Hey, been looking at the UYD coins, and think they’re really cool. This podcast is truly a part of my life and has been very therapeutic. I think it really sucks that there’s been a “Test” of my loyalty. I simply cant afford 50 bucks for a coin to prove my devotion. I’ve listened to this podcast since double digits and have tried to get everyone i can to listen. I post comments and bought t-shirts that didn’t fit just to show my appreciation. Now there’s a price tag to make me feel even less a part of things than i already do.

I’m bracing myself for the insults and backlash so go for it. If anyone agrees, thanks.

There’s no test of your loyalty that says you need to buy one.  They’re only valuable if you and others around you have them and will honor their symbolic power to get free drinks and stuff if they forget em.

I am one of UYD’s biggest fans and donated a bunch of money for episode 250, but these challenge coins don’t have much appeal or utility for me, so I’m not buying one.  I nor anyone else (except maybe you) is trying to say that makes me less of a fan than someone who does buy one.

Edit: Just noticed your signature is high worth listener, =P

It has nothing to do with your devotion, dude. I’ve been here since ep 02 and I can’t afford the coin. No one doubts you. No one I even know listens to the dudes. There will probably be other things that come out in limited quantities later for lower prices, don’t get bent about challenge coins that wont mean dick to anyone you know in the future.

You didn’t get the Bucky Dent card this go around. Maybe you’ll get it later.

I don’t give a FUCK about Oxford commas.

50 bucks is too expensive. It’ll mean plenty to myself, and possibly anyone I encounter that listens to the show. It would be great to compare serial numbers at live shows or online. If it’s not such a big deal, why are there only 100 printed?
There’s a limited amount of something being released amongst a group of listeners. It gives me a feeling of competition in a place I go to be neutral.

You’re putting way too much on this coin.
Take a chill pill.

To me it’s just giving 50 bucks to the fellas, in a world that I don’t contribute that much too otherwise. I didn’t really have the money, but I do think the coins are cool. If I really didn’t have the money I would have passed without worrying much about it. To me it’s the same as them having a live show somewhere. It’s unlikely they are coming to the southwest Ohio area, so I figure I’ll have to spend a couple bucks to see them, or oh well, I can’t make it.

The fact that there’s a limited amount says something to me. They’re numbered and therefore create a different mood than just a simple item.

The general response is that it doesn’t mean anything to anyone, but it means something to ME. I am fan of this show as much as someone would be of a band or celebrity. When i look at my poster(s) or tees it makes me happy that i’ve contributed to the show, and have something to represent it. I used to laugh at Fan-atics with their Elvis plates, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle memorabilia but i now understand. I cant wear my UYD tee every day, but I can carry a coin in my wallet.

It seems the only thing stopping people is the price, so the item itself does mean something. I would gladly click an ad, send some emails, or do something to the tune of a web hunt or episode hunt to obtain one. Sadly my dollars dont add up to an exclusive piece of a show I’ve always supported.

Longtime listener, first time caller.
I love my hairy logo tshirt and tote. I can’t wait for my anchor shirt to get here. I donated $ for ep 250 and I’ve got a rolling monthly donation going.

Why didn’t I get a coin? Personally, the whole idea of a ‘challenge coin’ at all is lost on me. And aesthetically it just didn’t shake my groove thing, groove thing, oh yeah. But even if it had been half hairy logo/half anchor I don’t think I would’ve gone for it.

I’ll totally throw down $$ for some limited edition fun way to donate to the show—but this one just wasn’t my jam. (& yeah, I do sorta feel like an asshole too )

i had never heard of challenge coins until i saw the coins on the merch page… but i had to have one.  50 dollars isn’t cheap, but fuck it.  there is only one UYD.

one day you’ll meet seth at a live show, and you two will show each other your challenge coins and it will be worth it.

yeah man, I’m Douglas Coke…

My point exactly. I’ll be there without a coin and wish I had one. This really spoils a part of the show for me. I would really like to see/hear this issue addressed by the duo themselves.

IT IS NOT AN ISSUE.  THE ISSUE IS IN YOUR BRAIN.

Seth and Jah did not release a product that limits their fan base to 100 people.

They talk about it all the time, they know how strapped people are for time and cash, they are just happy you’re listening and enjoying the show man.  Don’t stress the coin.

It’s somewhat baffling to me that you could’ve listened to the show for this long and still drawn the conclusion that they’re out to test your loyalty by making you buy things. Nobody expects you to buy a coin to prove how much of a fan you are, and it doesn’t elevate anybody to an elite level of fandom or involvement with the show to be an owner of one. It’s just a crazy specialty piece of merch that was proposed by some fans and created on a small scale as a response to that proposition.

It’s no different than opting not to get one of a certain run of t-shirts from your favorite band, or choosing not to buy a certain show poster. The measure of how much you love that band (or this show) is still the same. It has nothing to do with whether or not you’ve bought a given item unless the thing you’re celebrating is primarily a vessel for commerce. This isn’t a company or exclusive club that requires something of you to be a member. Most of us won’t have these and the show will still be every bit as funny next week.

These coins are made of silver and enamel. It costs money to get shit like that engraved on both sides. There is a whole thread dating back 2 years of people saying they’d love to have these. Would you rather the boys provided a product that fans of the show actively requested AND lost money on it?

My only complaint was that it wasn’t a “Flat Daddy” of them that got specially made. New product request thread anyone?

I like this, but what about some limited edition Seth and Jah Real Dolls? I’d take out a loan for one of those.

I second that. They could have make 1,000 of them out of some cheap ass plastic or something and sold them for 5 bucks. Who wants that? These are dope,

This isnt a choice. Its impossible for me to get one.

I dont get the analogies being used. Fans of other things get pissed all the time when merch isnt made fairly available.

There’s been a limited amount of something released into a community. Its automatic competition. By numbering and limiting something that wont be available again is bad form for a place like this.

BTW, I used to work for a 3d fabrication company, and they dont cost that much.

And just because it might not cost a lot to the fabricator does not mean they wont sell it to the boys whole sale, everyone needs to make a profit somewhere.

How about we discuss this without the insults. This is a forum for people’s thoughts and opinions. If I’m killing your buzz, stop clicking on the thread.

I also posted a topic about getting some segments animated by a very talented animator. I wish we could get some traffic on that topic.

Sweet lord you are being melodramatic about this. Is this the first time you haven’t been able to get something you want?

I’m starting to wish I had one purely out of spite.
